Welcome to Diabetics with Eating Disorders (DWED) your source for everything related to Eating Disorders in Type 1 Diabetes. DWED is a registered charity. Research shows that not only are females who have type one diabetes at twice the risk of developing anorexia or bulimia, as many as 40% of 15 – 30 year olds regularly omit insulin. The figures also show a growing number of male sufferers. This practice can have devastating consequences such as organ failure, infertility, blindness and in the worst cases, death. Despite the horrendous complications and staggering prevalence, diabulimia or ED-DMT1 is difficult to diagnose and there are no current guidelines for the NHS on how to deal with the issue.

DWED's aim is to provide support, awareness, advocacy and action. Whether you are a type 1 Diabetic with an Eating Disorder (DWED) requiring support, an academic looking for research participants, or a carer who doesn't know where to go next we aim to help you via this website. We have new online forums for sufferers and carers which will be manned when possible so you can get live support. You can sign up to be a press contact, have a look at our signs and symptoms or check our new flow chart that we have designed to make some sense out of the NHS. You can also leave feedback on your individual health care providers and sign up for materials and training or search our library of academic papers.

It is our aim to continually improve our services so please check in with us regularly and let us know how we are getting on.
